| It appears that the fine
folks over at Anheuser-Bush, the folks who make Budweiser, Michelob and
other beers, actually advertise in gay targeted publications and support
gay pride events. Frequent readers will recall my degree in marketing,
and the phrase "target marketing" should come to mind. The fact remains
that the pennies Anheuser-Bush may donate to gay pride events are a drop
in the ocean compared to their yearly advertising budget.
As I said at the beginning
of this column I was surprised to find all this out. This tid-bit came
to me via my good friends at the American Family Association, a group that,
in my humble opinion, seems a bit too interested in all things gay. It
should surprise no one that they are also opposed to all things gay, so
they are in fact promoting a boycott of Anheuser-Bush products. I’ll drink
to that.
In an attempt to bring their
convoluted message about Anheuser-Bush to the masses, the AFA has taken
to renting airplanes and flying banners over Bud sponsored events. Recently
they "buzzed" the Daytona 500, trailing a banner that read "Bud: Stop promoting
the Gay Agenda". They leafleted the streets and slapped up posters declaring
their boycott. This raises the following questions: Does Daytona have littering
laws, and if so, how carefully are they enforced?
Another bone in the collective
AFA craw is the fact that Anheuser-Bush extends benefits to the same sex
partners of it’s employees. They don’t make a big deal about that because
Anheuser-Bush is a private company and can do what it likes, but they still
make their disdain for this situation known in their propaganda. One might
imagine that they’re crying in their beers over this… but then again, they
can’t.
I have to think that this
action, like all other attempts by the AFA and other religious/political
groups to force their limited ideology on the rest of us, will fail. Budweiser
is both a mediocre beer and an American institution. You might, however
choose to check out their page at http://www.gaybeer.com/.
If nothing else, it’s good for a laugh.
Now if you’ll excuse me,
I’m off to the bar for a few games of pool, and to support the "evil" homosexual
agenda. Cheers. |
