The Web and Relationships
Long before computers and
the Internet came into our lives, we were social animals! We ventured
out of the house to meet new and interesting people face to face.
Dating consisted of two people getting together, going out to any number
of places, and the back-seat of cars became virtual romper
rooms. |
 |
Now that three out of five
households have a computer or access to one,
and are connected to the
World
Wide Web, socializing has taken on a whole new meaning. The chat room
is rapidly becoming the in place to meet new people.
Many chat rooms exist on
the web, with a wide array of topics. If it's romance you are looking
for, all you need to do is type, "Romance+Chat+Rooms" in your favorite
search engine and voilà! You are bombarded with hundreds even
thousands of places to choose from.
Although this can be a good
way to meet and talk to people all over the
world, it can become a problem
when a married or otherwise attached man or woman becomes romantically
involved with someone they met on line.
Suddenly relationships that
were otherwise happy and stable, become irreparably damaged. Some
of these people will leave their friends, family, jobs and their whole
lives behind to pursue this new and mysterious love they have met on the
Internet.
All too often, this "new
and exciting" relationship fades away, leaving the man/woman wondering
"What have I done?" Trying to repair the damage left in their wake
is almost impossible.
My point? Anyone can
and will tell you anything you want to hear on the
Internet. They will
portray themselves as everything you could possible want in a mate.
You can even have steamy cyber sex with them, which will really get your
imagination going! But...It rarely turns out as great as you might
imagine in real life, and what about the lives of the people affected while
you are finding this out? Is it really worth it?
